From the tight-knit village of Pomerol, Clos du Clocher is a true sleeper whose price has not caught up with its quality. Originlly founded in 1924, located in the center of the Pomerol plateau, Clos du Clocher was put together piece by piece whenever opportunities allowed the owner to acquire more plots or a row of vines. As the plan shows, some of its vines are planted next to Château Trotanoy, some next to Château Vieux Château Certan.  Its best plots are not far from the vines owned by Château Latour a Pomerol and Château La Fleur-Pétrus. Not to mention, it has some illustrious neighbors: Le Pin (5 minutes walk), La Conseillante, Beauregard, Petit Village, Pétrus (15 minutes walk). The annual production averages about 1600 to 2000 cases. Need us say more?

Tasting Notes

"The 2016 Clos du Clocher is medium to deep garnet-purple colored and very earthy on the nose with cigar box, forest floor, truffles and charcoal aromas with black cherries and baked red and black plums. Elegantly styled, the palate is medium-bodied with perfumed fruit, a fine-grained frame and a long refreshing finish." - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, (11/30/2018, Interim Issue), Rating: 94

"The 2016 Clos du Clocher is a blend of 79% Merlot and 21% Cabernet Franc, picked 10-17 October at 44 hectoliters per hectare and matured in 65% new oak. This includes some vinification intégrale. It has a very clean and precise bouquet with pure blackberry, raspberry and cold stone aromas, the oak beautifully integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, with an edginess from start to finish, and saline vein that becomes more evident towards the finish. I love the focus, the intent of this Clos du Clocher, never compromising one iota of finesse from start to finish. Being located smack bang on the plateau has really yielded dividends for this Pomerol and it should age with style over 20, maybe 30 years." - Neal Martin, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, (4/28/2017, Issue 230), Rating: 93-95
