The Clos de Vougeot is one of the most iconic appellations in Burgundy, classified as a Grand Cru and located in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. It sits between the famous wine village of Vosne-Romanée to the north and Flagey-Echezeaux to the south, along the legendary Route des Grands Crus. Clos de Vougeot lies just outside the village of Vougeot from which it takes its name. The vineyard is entirely enclosed by ancient stone walls built by Cistercian monks in the 12th century.
Covering an area of 50.6 hectares, the Clos de Vougeot is one of the largest Grand Cru vineyards in Burgundy. The terroir of Clos de Vougeot is notable for its diversity. Located on the slopes of the Cote d’Or escarpment, the terroir plays a crucial role in shaping the character of the wines. The vineyard spans a range of altitudes and soil compositions. It can be divided into different zones each influencing the quality and character of the wines. This entire vineyard benefits from a temperate continental climate with distinct seasons that contribute to the complexity and balance of the wines.
Clos de Vougeot is planted entirely to Pinot Noir, Burgundy’s signature grape. The wines of Clos de Vougeot are known for their structure and complexity. As a Grand Cru, these wines represent some of the most refined expressions of this varietal, blending power and elegance. They typically exhibit rich aromas of dark and red fruits in their youth, evolving into more earthy and spicy notes as they age. These wines have a very intense color.
