The Vosne-Romanée appellation is located in the heart of the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy and it lies along the famous Route des Grands Crus, an iconic route that passes through some of Burgundy’s greatest vineyards. It is situated between the villages of Nuits Saint-Georges to the south and Vougeot to the north, about 20 km south of Dijon. This small village covers a limited area but is home to some of the most prestigious vineyards, including famous Grands Crus such as La Romanée Conti, La Romanée, La Tâche and Richebourg.
The terroir of Vosne Romanée is characterized by limestone soils mixed with clay and marl. The climate continental with warm summers and cool winters fostering the production of elegant wines. The vineyards benefit from an ideal orientation situated on the gentle slopes of the Côte d’Or at an average altitude of 250 to 300 meters. The vineyards of the Vosne Romanée covers around 175 hectares which includes Grands Crus vineyards, Premiers Crus vineyards (including 14 Premiers Crus Climats) and some village appellation vineyards.
The style of Vosne Romanée wines is often described as a combination of elegance and power. This appellation produces red wines exclusively made from Pinot Noir, the emblematic grape of Burgundy; these wines represent the ultimate expression of this grape variety. Vosne Romanée wines are characterized by their bright ruby color, which deepens into garnet hues as they age. On the nose, these wines have a delicate and well-defined bouquet. They reveal complex and intense aromas of ripe red and black fruits such as cherry, raspberry and blackcurrant often accompanied by floral notes like rose or violet. On the palate, these wines are remarkably silky with fine tannins and well-balanced acidity.
