Tasting Notes

"The 2013 Chambolle-Musigny Cuvée des Cigales has a deep blackcurrant and raspberry bouquet: reserved but delineated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, a pleasant powdery texture, a lively acidic thread and fine backbone on the finish that has a pleasant savory touch. Very fine and full of character." - Neal Martin, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (12/29/2014, Issue 216), Rating: 89-91, Drink: 2016-2026

Chambolle is a small village located in the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy between Morey-Saint-Denis to the north and The Clos de Vougeot to the south. The Chambolle-Musigny vineyard is located in the middle of the five big communes for red wine in Burgundy and covers about 150 hectares of which 24 hectares are classified as Premier Cru and 2 as Grand Cru : Bonnes Mares and Musigny. The village takes its name from the “Chambolle” stream, which flows through the commune and one of its most iconic Grand Cru : Musigny. The village also boasts among its fine wines a prestigious Premier Cru “Les Amoureuses”. This appellation was created in September 1936.

The appellation is dedicated solely to the production of red wines made from Pinot Noir. It is considered one of the most delicate appellations of the Cote de Nuits standing apart from its neighboring villages known for producing more robust wines.

The terroir of Chambolle-Musigny is primarily composed of limestone soils with a thin layer of marl. The climate in this appellation is semi-continental characterized by cold winters and relatively warm summers. The vineyard enjoys a favorable southeast exposure favorable to Pinot Noir, a delicate grape variety that fully expresses its elegance and finesse. The wines of Chambolle-Musigny are characterized as the most feminine wine of the Cote de Nuits but also as the most balanced wines.

They are renowned for their ethereal and graceful nature. The defining character of these wines are their finesse and lightness, yet they maintain a depth of flavor that offers both complexity and intensity. These wines offer a deep color and a gourmet bouquet with rich aromas of red fruits and floral notes.

Among the most famous estates in this appellation are : Domaine Ponsot, Maison Joseph Drouhin, Domaine Henri de Villamont, Domaine Louis Latour, Domaine Leroy, Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé, Maison Louis Jadot and Domaine Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier.
