Château Latour-Martillac is a winery located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation in the Bordeaux region of France. The estate has a long history, dating back to the 12th century, when it was owned by the Benedictine monks. The current château was built in the 18th century and has been owned by the Kressmann family since 1930.

The vineyard of Château Latour-Martillac covers 42 hectares, with the majority planted with red grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. The estate also produces a small amount of white wine from Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon.

The wines of Château Latour-Martillac are known for their balance, elegance, and finesse. They are often described as being a "classic" expression of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, with a focus on terroir-driven flavors and aromas. The red wines are typically aged in oak barrels for 12-18 months, depending on the vintage, and can age for several decades.

Château Latour-Martillac has received numerous accolades and awards over the years, including being named a Grand Cru Classé de Graves in the official classification of Bordeaux wines in 1953. The estate has also been recognized for its commitment to sustainable viticulture and has been certified by several organizations, including Terra Vitis and HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale).

Tasting Notes

"Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Latour Martillac has a spicy nose of cinnamon stick, cloves and aniseed with a core of red and black cherries and a waft of fragrant earth. The palate is medium-bodied with plenty of juicy fruit and a firm frame of fine-grained tannins with bags of freshness lifting the finish." - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, The Wine Advocate (2/21/2018, Interim Issue), Ratings: 93, Drink: 2019-2040

"The 2015 Latour Martillac is a blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot matured in 40% new French oak. It has a slightly more high-toned and outgoing bouquet, with dark cherries and blackcurrant aromas, a smidgen of cassis emerging with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a pleasant saltiness here, very focused with a finish of real pedigree. This is a superb Pessac-Léognan from the estate - one of the best in recent years." - Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate (4/27/2016, Issue 224), Ratings: 92-94, Drink: 2021-2045

"Some handy depth here. Ripe dark cherries and blackberries are framed in slightly nutty, cedary and spicy oak. The palate’s built on polished layered tannin sheets, delivering depth and sturdiness amid fresh flavors of dark cherries and cassis. Best from 2022." - James Suckling, Ratings: 94

"Silky, sexy, rich damson fruits aged in 30% new oak. A beautiful example of this wine: very strong in an already good vintage. Tannins grip the fruit without strangling; plenty of development potential." - Decanter, Ratings: 92

Footnotes on Futures, Pre-Arrivals, and potential US Tariffs:

1. As of June 15, 2021, the US and the EU agreed to suspend tariffs resulting from the Boeing-Airbus aircraft trade disputes. Accordingly, such import taxes are now suspended for the next five years.

2. Futures are expected to be available for delivery two years after the sales (e.g., the 2022 vintage, sold in 2023, will be delivered in 2025 mostly, or 2026 if the producer ages the wine longer).

3. Pre-Arrivals are items currently stored in our Bordeaux cellar or in transit from France to the US. It usually takes 1-6 months for Pre-Arrivals to become available for delivery, depending on the stage of the import process.

4. Regarding futures and pre-arrivals, we cannot guarantee specific delivery dates, which factors beyond our control may impact. However, we will notify you once your wine arrives in our cellar.

5. While a buyer of Bordeaux wine futures locks in an allocation of the specified items, the final delivery of the purchased items from France to the US may be impacted by intervening and unforeseeable events. Despite our due diligence, additional costs or delays may be caused by such intervening and unforeseen events and "an irresistible, superhuman cause, or by the act of public enemies of the state of California or the United States."  In such circumstances, if a buyer does not accept unforeseeable costs or delays, the sole and exclusive remedy is a cancellation of the futures order concerned and a refund of the original purchase price. We are NOT liable for any lost profits on a canceled order.
