Like a cabinet of curiosities reminiscent of a journey to faraway lands, the exotic travel box set offers a singular occasion to comprehend the style of the wines of Cos d'Estournel through four emblematic vintages.

Available in a limited series of 100, this box set with an original format includes the 2000, 2010, 2015, and 2016 vintages - each of which reveals a facet of the terroir at Cos d'Estournel.

The wines are bottled in magnums - an ideal format for tasting - and echo the quest of excellence perpetuated since 2000 with Michael Reybier's arrival.

To complete the experience, the acquisition of the Exotic Travel Box set includes a private tour of Cos d'Estournel followed by lunch for four at La Maison d'Estournel, a hotel in the former home of the founder Louis Gaspard d'Estournel that is dedicated to the joys of rejuvinating in the heart of nature.

2000 Cos d'Estournel is an outstanding vintage from the same year that Michael Reybier acquired the estate.  With notes of roasted fruit and delicate spices, as well as the velvety texture that is the hallmark of Cos d'Estournel, it continues to offer great freshness, thanks to the excellent location of the estate's terroir.

2010 Cos d'Estournel strikes a balance between power, balance and freshness.  It incarnates the quintissential style of Cos d'Estournel.

2015 Cos d'Estournel embodies all the qualities of an exceptional Cos d'Estournel, with intense spicy notes, wonderful smoothness, and great bredth that reveals the elegant, sophisticated terroir of Cos.

2016 Cos d'Estournel is a magnificent expression of our terroir. The subject of unanimous praise and admiration, it is a delicate, astonishingly opulent wine with incredible balance.

Tasting Notes

2000 Cos d'Estournel Magnum: "Blended of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc, the 2000 Cos d'Estournel is deep garnet in color with a touch of brick and sporting a lot of tertiary evolution on the nose. It leaps from the glass with opulent sandalwood, Chinese five spice, cigar box and leather scents over a core of prunes, baked cherries, dried mulberries and eucalyptus plus a touch of potpourri. Medium-bodied, the palate is laden with fragrant fruitcake and exotic spice layers, framed by wonderfully plush tannins and a refreshing line, finishing with an exhilarating menthol lift." - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (11/30/2018, Interim Issue), Ratings: 97, Drink: 2018-2033

2010 Cos d'Estournel Magnum: "Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Cos d'Estournel unfurls slowly, measuredly, releasing delicate notes of dried mulberries, stewed plums and blackcurrant pastilles before giving way to notions of potpourri, black cherry compote and chocolate box plus touches of dried sage, tobacco and new leather. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a rock-solid foundation of very firm, grainy tannins and very lively acidity supporting the remarkable intensity of tightly wound fruit layers, finishing very long and fragrant. Give it another 4-5 years in bottle and this will be stunning!" - Lisa Perotti-Brown, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (3/5/2020, March Issue), Ratings: 99, Drink: 2024 - 2060

2015 Cos d'Estournel Magnum: "Composed of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23.5% Merlot and 1.5% Cabernet Franc, the deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Cos d'Estournel is muted at this very young stage. The nose offers fleeting glimpses at provocative cherry tart, chocolate mint, baked redcurrants, warm cassis and wild blueberry scents plus suggestions of lilacs, cinnamon stick and Indian spices. Medium to full-bodied, the palate absolutely explodes with vibrant red and black fruit bursts and tons of exotic spice accents, framed by super ripe, super firm tannins and a lovely line of freshness, finishing very long." - Lisa Perotti-Brown, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (11/30/2018, Interim Issue) Rating: 95+ Drink: 2022 - 2050

2016 Cos d'Estournel Magnum: "The 2016 Cos d'Estournel is blended of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc aged in 65% new and 35% two-year-old French oak for 15 months. Bottled in July 2018, it is deep garnet-purple colored and starts off a little closed and reticent, opening out slowly and seductively to reveal beautiful lilacs, rose hip tea, crushed stones and camphor nuances over a core of crème de cassis, kirsch, wild blueberries and mocha plus wafts of incense and wood smoke. The palate is simply electric, charged with an energy and depth of flavors that seem to defy the elegance and ethereal nature of its medium-bodied weight, featuring super ripe, densely pixelated tannins that firmly frame the myriad of fruit and floral sparks, finishing with epic length. Just. Magic." - Lisa Perotti-Brown, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (11/30/2018, Interim Issue), Rating: 100 Drink: 2024-2068

Footnotes on Futures, Pre-Arrivals, and potential US Tariffs:

1. As of June 15, 2021, the US and the EU agreed to suspend tariffs resulting from the Boeing-Airbus aircraft trade disputes. Accordingly, such import taxes are now suspended for the next five years.

2. Futures are expected to be available for delivery two years after the sales (e.g., the 2022 vintage, sold in 2023, will be delivered in 2025 mostly, or 2026 if the producer ages the wine longer).

3. Pre-Arrivals are items currently stored in our Bordeaux cellar or in transit from France to the US. It usually takes 1-6 months for Pre-Arrivals to become available for delivery, depending on the stage of the import process.

4. Regarding futures and pre-arrivals, we cannot guarantee specific delivery dates, which factors beyond our control may impact. However, we will notify you once your wine arrives in our cellar.

5. While a buyer of Bordeaux wine futures locks in an allocation of the specified items, the final delivery of the purchased items from France to the US may be impacted by intervening and unforeseeable events. Despite our due diligence, additional costs or delays may be caused by such intervening and unforeseen events and "an irresistible, superhuman cause, or by the act of public enemies of the state of California or the United States."  In such circumstances, if a buyer does not accept unforeseeable costs or delays, the sole and exclusive remedy is a cancellation of the futures order concerned and a refund of the original purchase price. We are NOT liable for any lost profits on a canceled order.
