Domaine Humbert Frères, led by the brothers Frédéric and Emmanuel, embodies a profound connection to the land and a deep-seated passion for winemaking. With a family heritage steeped in viticulture and a commitment to quality that spans generations, the estate has become a cornerstone of excellence in Gevrey-Chambertin. Cultivating approximately 7 hectares of vineyards exclusively owned by the estate, the Humbert brothers meticulously tend to their remarkable parcels surrounding Gevrey-Chambertin. These vineyards, predominantly planted with old vines aged over 40 years, yield grapes of exceptional quality and depth.

At the heart of the estate lies their flagship wine, the Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru, a testament to the Humbert brothers' dedication to crafting wines of distinction. However, their portfolio also boasts premier cru vineyards such as Poissenot, adjacent to esteemed sites like Estournelles, Lavaux, and Clos St Jacques, showcasing the diversity and complexity of Gevrey-Chambertin's terroir. In the cellar, the winemaking philosophy remains firmly rooted in tradition, with a focus on allowing the grapes' inherent qualities to shine. Grapes are destemmed, and regular punch-downs and pump-overs during extended macerations ensure optimal extraction of flavor and structure. The resulting wines are structured for aging, with a remarkable capacity to evolve and reveal their full potential with time in the cellar.

Domaine Humbert Frères wines are a reflection of the heritage, terroir, and the meticulous craftsmanship of the Humbert brothers. With each bottle, they invite wine lovers on a journey of discovery through the storied vineyards of Gevrey-Chambertin, offering a glimpse into the timeless wisdom and profound beauty of Burgundy's winemaking tradition.

About Gevrey-Chambertin

Gevrey-Chambertin is located in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy. It lies just south of Dijon and north of Nuits-Saint-Georges, and is one of the most prestigious wine villages in the region. The appellation covers over 409.36 hectares of vineyards including 79.32 hectares Premier Cru, making it the largest village-level AOC in the Côte d'Or. The village of Gevrey was officially allowed to append the name of its most famous Grand Cru vineyard, Chambertin, in 1847, underlining its historic importance in Burgundy. Viticulture in Gevrey-Chambertin dates back to Roman times, but it was during the Middle Ages, under the stewardship of monastic orders such as the Cistercians, that the vineyards began to gain real prominence. The reputation of Chambertin itself began to rise significantly in the 18th century, even being favored by Napoleon Bonaparte. Over time, the region’s wines gained acclaim across Europe, and the official AOC designation was granted in 1936, preserving its legacy and ensuring consistent quality. The terroir of Gevrey-Chambertin is characterized by its complex geology and optimal positioning on the gentle slopes of the Côte d'Or escarpment. Soils vary from limestone-rich marl at higher elevations to deeper clay-limestone mixtures lower down, offering excellent drainage and mineral richness. The vineyard includes 26 Premiers Cru Climats. Red wines are exclusively produced and made with Pinot Noir. Wines from Gevrey-Chambertin are renowned for their robust structure, deep color, and age-worthy character. They typically display aromas of black cherry, blackberry, earthy undertones, and sometimes a touch of game or spice. Laguna Cellar presents Domaine Humbert Frères and Domaine Ponsot.
