Château Guiraud, traditionally known for its sweet First Growth (Premier Grand Cru Classé) Sauternes, has been investing in making a biodynamic dry white wine.  One has to taste this true Bordeaux dry white to realize the value per price that is hardly matched by its New World competition.

Tasting Notes

"Summer 2014 was chilly and caused a very long maturity of the grapes. But at the end of August, the climate changed and hot temperatures enabled the grapes to be picked at their peak of maturity. Then, fermentations by batches were very marked, each one of them evolving at its own rhythm.  With the 2014 vintage, we can hope for a wine with a lot of fruit, very powerful and with a great acidity. The selection we do of the best vines of sauvignon and sémillon brings us an aromatic expression of a great purity." - Xavier Planty, co-owner and estate manager

"Fermentation in old oak barrels, previously used for the Guiraud Grand Vin. Ageing takes place from six to nine months in barrels, regularly stirring the lees. Sappy herbal notes, very creamy sweet oak. Bold, spicy, juicy and sleek."  - GV Richard Hemming MW, JancisRobinson.com

"A generous, dry white Sauternes with layers of delicate floral and citrus flavors. There is nice depth and intensity on the mid-palate with freshness that carries through in the finish. A well-made white that should keep for at least 5 to 7 years." - Jeannie Cho Lee MW

"The G de Guiraud 2014 has quite a complex bouquet with lively citrus fruit intermixed with sea cave scents. There is something almost marine-like here. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, appreciable weight in the mouth with light green apple and spice notes emerging toward the finish. This is how to do dry white Sauternes.” - The Wine Advocate
