Château Kirwan was one of the châteaus actually visited by America's first wine connoisseur, Thomas Jefferson.  At the time, Jefferson thought is was "second in quality behind Margaux, La Tour, Haut-Brion, and La Fite."

Tasting Notes

"The 2013 Kirwan has one of the better sets of aromatics from Margaux with simple blackberry and bilberry scents, plus a tinge of damp earth. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly stringy tannin but good acidity, while the finish shows less under-ripeness than its peers. It does lack length and there is a distracting metallic note on the aftertaste that contradicts the quality of the nose. It is a decent Margaux, if not performing as well as I was hoping from barrel." - Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate (10/28/2016, Issue 227), Ratings: 88

"The positive influence of consultant Michel Rolland lives on at this estate. This bold, ripe wine brings out layers of black-plum fruits that are attractive and supported by some firm tannins. It will develop quickly; drink from 2019." - Roger Voss, The Wine Enthusiast (3/2016), Ratings: 92
