Échezeaux is a prestigious Grand Cru vineyard located in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy, specifically within the commune of Flagey-Échezeaux. Nestled between the communes of Vosne-Romanée and Chambolle-Musigny, it sits on the mid-slope of the Côte d'Or escarpment. The appellation covers just over 37 hectares, making it one of the larger Grand Cru vineyards in Burgundy. Its proximity to other legendary sites, such as Clos de Vougeot and Romanée-Conti, enhances its reputation and strategic importance in Burgundy’s viticultural landscape.

The history of Échezeaux dates back to at least the 13th century, when it was cultivated by the monks of the Cîteaux Abbey, who played a vital role in shaping the viticultural heritage of Burgundy. Over the centuries, the vineyard gained widespread renown for the quality of its wines. On 31 July 1937, Échezeaux was officially granted Grand Cru status under the Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) system. Today, the vineyard is highly fragmented, with over 80 owners, resulting in a diversity of winemaking styles and expressions of the terroir.

Échezeaux is a highly fragmented vineyard, with over 80 owners, contributing to a broad range of interpretations of its terroir. The vineyard is composed of multiple climats, or named parcels, each imparting subtle variations in soil composition, elevation, and microclimate. These nuances, combined with the individuality of each producer’s style, result in wines of notable diversity and complexity.

As with all red Grand Crus in the Côte de Nuits, Pinot Noir is the sole grape variety permitted in Échezeaux. The wines are celebrated for their ruby-red color and aromatic elegance. They typically exhibit vibrant aromas of cherry, raspberry, and plum, often layered with floral notes, earthy undertones, and a touch of spice.

Footnotes on Futures, Pre-Arrivals, and potential US Tariffs:

1. On June 15, 2021, the US and the EU agreed to suspend tariffs resulting from the Boeing-Airbus aircraft trade disputes. The Trump Administration has announced plans to impose new tariffs on global trade. Until further notice, the price of Futures and Pre-Arrivals offered on this site does NOT include any tariffs. Additional charges may apply at the time of delivery.

2. Futures are expected to be available for delivery two years after the sales (e.g., the 2022 vintage, sold in 2023, will be delivered in 2025 mostly, or 2026 if the producer ages the wine longer).

3. Pre-Arrivals are items currently stored in our Bordeaux cellar or in transit from France to the US. It usually takes 1-6 months for Pre-Arrivals to become available for delivery, depending on the stage of the import process.

4. Regarding futures and pre-arrivals, we cannot guarantee specific delivery dates, which factors beyond our control may impact. However, we will notify you once your wine arrives in our cellar.

5. While a buyer of Bordeaux wine futures locks in an allocation of the specified items, the final delivery of the purchased items from France to the US may be impacted by intervening and unforeseeable events. Despite our due diligence, additional costs or delays may be caused by such intervening and unforeseen events and "an irresistible, superhuman cause, or by the act of public enemies of the state of California or the United States."  In such circumstances, if a buyer does not accept unforeseeable costs or delays, the sole and exclusive remedy is a cancellation of the futures order concerned and a refund of the original purchase price. We are NOT liable for any lost profits on a canceled order.
