Rioja

Rioja is Spain's most famous wine region, a benchmark for the country's reds and the classic home of the Tempranillo grape. Spread along the Ebro River in the north, it blends Tempranillo with Garnacha, Graciano, and Mazuelo to create wines of balance, finesse, and remarkable longevity.

Rioja is defined as much by its ageing as by its terroir. The traditional tiers — Crianza, Reserva, and Gran Reserva — denote progressively longer maturation in oak barrel and bottle, giving the region's hallmark style: savoury and supple, with sweet vanilla and dried-fruit notes from extended cask ageing.

From bright, modern expressions to profound, decades-old Gran Reservas, Rioja offers a breadth of style and an unrivalled track record for ageing gracefully — all at prices that remain among the most rewarding in fine wine.
