Yunnan

Yunnan, in China's mountainous southwest, is one of the wine world's most remarkable frontiers. In the Himalayan foothills near Shangri-La, vineyards are planted at extreme altitudes — well above 2,000 metres — on steep slopes tended entirely by hand.

The region rose to international attention through Ao Yun, the ambitious estate established by luxury house LVMH, which blends Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc into a refined, structured red. The high altitude brings intense sunlight by day and cold nights, yielding wines of concentration, freshness, and finesse.

Rare and meticulously made, Yunnan's wines represent a fascinating new chapter in fine wine — proof that world-class reds can emerge from some of the most unlikely terroir on earth.
