Colchagua Valley
The Colchagua Valley, in Chile's Rapel region, is a sun-soaked stronghold of bold, full-bodied red wine. Its warm climate, cooled by Pacific and Andean influences, ripens red grapes to generous, richly fruited maturity.
Colchagua is celebrated for powerful Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and especially Carmenère — Chile's signature grape, lost from Bordeaux and rediscovered here — which gives plush, spicy reds. The premium hillside district of Apalta, with its amphitheatre of granite slopes, is home to some of the country's most acclaimed wines.
