Côte de Beaune
The Côte de Beaune is the southern half of the Côte d'Or, radiating out from the historic wine town of Beaune. While it produces superb Pinot Noir, it is above all the world's greatest source of dry white wine.
Its white appellations are a roll call of legends: Montrachet and its surrounding Grands Crus, the racy precision of Puligny-Montrachet, the richness of Meursault, the breadth of Chassagne-Montrachet, and the majestic Corton-Charlemagne. These Chardonnays set the standard that white-wine producers everywhere aspire to.
The reds are no afterthought — the silky elegance of Volnay, the sturdy power of Pommard, and the wines of Beaune and the Corton hill all have devoted followings. Built on limestone and marl, the Côte de Beaune offers Burgundy at its most complete.
