Côte d'Or
The Côte d'Or — the "golden slope" — is the narrow ribbon of east-facing limestone hillside that forms the heart of Burgundy and the source of nearly all its greatest wines. Running for some fifty kilometres south of Dijon, it divides into two halves of complementary genius.
To the north, the Côte de Nuits is the kingdom of Pinot Noir, home to the most exalted red Grands Crus on earth. To the south, the Côte de Beaune produces the world's benchmark Chardonnay alongside its own distinguished reds.
It is here that Burgundy's obsession with terroir is most finely drawn: a mosaic of climats, each with its own soil, exposure, and microclimate, classified over centuries into Village, Premier Cru, and Grand Cru. The Côte d'Or is, quite simply, sacred ground for lovers of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
