This is the other wine produced by the owner of Château Ausone.  Since 1921, the Vauthier family has had sole ownership of this adjacent property to Château Ausone.  On the map, one can see how these two vineyards are located next to each other.  On the ground, one can see Moulin Saint Georges just down the hill from Ausone.  Ausone has the south-facing slopes, Moulin Saint-Georges is not so blessed.  As a result, its terrior is cooler.  That difference matters, which is why only Ausone is classified Premier Grand Cru Classé A (until it abandoned its St-Emilion ranking), not Moulin Saint-Georges.  But at 1/10th the price of Ausone, Mouline Saint-Georges is the wine one can fill up the cellar with and drink every day.  Bordeaux insider Jane Anson said it best in her new book: "If I had to pick one non-classified St-Emilion to load up my cellar and guard jealously, it just might be this one."  Don't just take her word for it, open a bottle and taste it for yourself.

Tasting Notes

"So full of deeply-drawn berry fruit, fresh and juicy with touches of liquorice bud and rosemary, thirst quenching and yet thirst inducing in that amazing way that limestone can both refresh and make you thirst for more at the same time. An excellent Moulin St Georges, and such a step up from the more sandy soils that you find at Fonbel and the two Simard estates in this year's range of Vauthier-owned wines that this alone can help you understand how to navigate 2020." - Jane Anson, Decanter (05/25/2021), Ratings: 94, Drink: 2027-2040

"Gorgeous black and blue fruits, graphite, tobacco, and violet notes emerge from the 2020 Château Moulin Saint Georges, a rich, full-bodied, beautifully balanced blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. It's one of the standouts in the lineup, and while I'd happily drink a bottle today, it's going to benefit from just 2-4 years of bottle age and keep for two decades." - Jeb Dunnuck, (03/29/2023), Ratings: 93, Drink: 2025-2045

"The 2020 Moulin Saint-Georges is soft, fruity and easygoing, all of which make it a fine choice for drinking now and over the next handful of years. The blend is 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, but even so, Moulin Saint-Georges is a wine of reserve and nuance. There’s terrific energy and vibrancy here. I would not be in any rush to open this. This gorgeous, under the radar Saint-Émilion is not at all showy, but it will appeal tremendously to readers who like firm, classically built wines. I can’t wait to see how it ages. This is a major Sleeper." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous, (02/24/2023), Ratings: 93
