Château de la Tour Clos de Vougeot is nestled in the Côte de Nuits, an emblematic sub-region of Burgundy, famous for its grands crus. Located in the heart of the village of Vougeot, Clos de Vougeot covers 50 hectares, making it one of the largest clos in the region. The vineyard is surrounded by a stone wall, typical of Burgundy clos, offering a unique, protected microclimate.
The history of Château de la Tour and Clos de Vougeot dates back to the 12th century, when the Cistercian monks of Cîteaux Abbey planted the first vines. Their expertise in viticulture created an exceptional vineyard. The château itself was built in the 16th century and served as a wine-making and storage center for the monks. Over the centuries, Clos de Vougeot gained renown and attracted the attention of wine lovers the world over. In 1944, the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin took up residence in the château, organizing prestigious events to promote Burgundy wines.
The Clos de Vougeot terroir is a blend of limestone, clay and marl soils. The diversity of these soils, combined with an altitude ranging from 240 to 260 meters, ensures optimal ripening of the grapes. The region's climate, with hot summers and cold winters, also contributes to the quality of the wines. The natural drainage of the limestone soils enables the vines to develop deep roots, accessing essential minerals that result in wines with complex aromas and elegant structure.
Harvesting is carried out by hand to ensure meticulous selection of the grapes, thus guaranteeing the quality of the bunches. Fermentation takes place in open wooden vats, allowing gentle extraction of tannins and aromas. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new, for a period of 16 to 18 months. This barrel-ageing process gives the wine subtle woody notes and increased aromatic complexity.
Château de la Tour Clos de Vougeot 2015 is made exclusively from Pinot Noir, the emblematic grape variety of Burgundy. Château de la Tour Clos de Vougeot 2015 is distinguished by its deep, intense ruby color. On the nose, it exudes complex aromas of red fruits such as black cherry and raspberry, mingled with spicy notes of pepper and clove, and floral touches of violet. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and powerful, with a fine tannic structure and well-integrated acidity. The tannins are silky, imparting a velvety texture and remarkable length on the palate. The finish is persistent, leaving notes of truffle, leather and licorice.
"Nowadays the vineyard is divided among numerous owners and for this reason no single description can be applied to the reds wines. There are, however, common features: very intense colour ranging from strawberry red to deep garnet; a suave bouquet, redolent of springtime of blown roses at dawn, of violets in the morning dew, of most mignonette... Add to these blackberries, raspberry, wild mint, liquorice and truffle... On the palate, the taste is masterful, rich, succulent and mellow, combining elegance and delicacy with meaty fullness. A long finish in the mouth and long aging potential (anything from 10 to 30 years and sometimes even more)." - Bourgogne Wine Board
