• Domaine: Château Belle-Vue
• Appellation: Haut Médoc
• Classification: Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel
• Origin: Left Bank, Bordeaux, France

The Château Belle-Vue is located in the Médoc wine region, on the left bank of the Gironde River, in southwestern France. Specifically, it is situated in the commune of Soussans, near the town of Margaux. This region is renowned for its prestigious vineyards, which produce some of the world's most famous and sought-after wines.

Acquired by Vincent Mulliez in 2004, Château Belle-Vue has a rich history intertwined with the tradition of Bordeaux wines. This estate once housed the headquarters of an active fleet before gaining renown for its vineyards. Highly esteemed since the 19th century, the estate has won numerous prestigious awards, including a gold medal in Amsterdam in 1895, silver in Brussels in 1897, Paris in 1900, and Bordeaux in 1907.

Recent vintages have also been consistently distinguished in competitions and by the international press. Since the untimely passing of Vincent Mulliez in 2010, his wife Isabelle has taken over the management of the property, steadfastly continuing the work initiated by her husband. Vincent Mulliez, a rigorous and enterprising man, succeeded in elevating his three estates—Belle-Vue, Gironville, and Bolaire—among the best value-for-price wines of the Médoc in just a few years. As part of the Mulliez estates, which include Chateau de Gironville and Chateau Bolaire, Chateau Belle vue is committed to sustainable viticulture practices, eschewing the use of pesticides and earning HVE certification (High Environmental Value). Reflecting its dedication to quality, Chateau Belle-Vue presents its wines in distinctive conical bottles reminiscent of the design of a Grand Cru Classe.

The vineyards, of 14.6 hectares, boasts a unique personality derived from its cultivation of five different grape varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon (48%), Merlot (30%), Petit Verdot (20%), Cabernet Franc (1%) and Carmenere (1%).

Tasting Notes

''Joint ownership between Pradel de Lavaux and de Boüard de Laforest families, located on the plateau just above Angélus, with clay-limestone cool soils that are planted to 100% Merlot. This is beautifully deep in colour, and the tension and mouth-watering slate minerality that was evident during En Primeur is still here. Creamy blackberry fruits are brushed with smoked caramel, delivered with purity and poise, this is exceptionally good quality, and so different in character from its sister estate Angélus. Second to last vintage for longtime winemaker Emmanuelle Fulchi, showcasing her skills here.'' Jane Anson, Best Pomerol 2020 Wines Tasted En Primeur (11/03/2021) Rating: 95 Drink: 2026-2042

''Rock star stuff readers should snatch up, the deep ruby/purple-hued 2019 Château Belle-Vue gives up a gorgeous bouquet of ripe currants, black cherries, tobacco, and cedar pencil. This carries to a medium to full-bodied, round, supple, elegant Haut-Médoc with velvety tannins, remarkable balance, and a great finish. It's a gorgeous bottle of wine that will keep for over a decade.'' Jeb Dunnuck, Bordeaux 2022 En Primeur (4/11/2022) Ratings: 92 Drink: 2022-2033

''From a 15-hectare vineyard just outside the appellation of Margaux, not far from Giscours, the 2019 Belle-Vue offers up aromas of earthy berry fruit, smoky oak and dried herbs, followed by a medium-bodied, lively and melting palate. It's a creditable effort best drunk over the next decade.'' William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (04/07/2022) Ratings: 88 Drink: 2021-2029
