Perrier-Jouët: The art of Champagne, crafted through generations
Perrier-Jouët house was founded in 1811, one year after the marriage of Pierre-Nicolas Perrier and Rose-Adelaide Jouët, two passionate and entrepreneurial champagne lovers. Perrier-Jouet is one of the most iconic champagne houses in the world. Located in Epernay, with the Golden Triangle on the Côtes des Blancs, Perrier-Jouët’s vineyards are renowned for their exceptional quality, scoring vines at 99,2% on the Echelle des Crus quality scale.
From the very beginning, Perrier-Jouët distinguished itself by making bold, visionary choices. One of the most groundbreaking decisions was the founders’ commitment to Chardonnay as the signature grape of the house. This pioneering move helped to establish the brand’s renowned style, characterized by its delicate, floral elegance. The decision to prioritize Chardonnay a grape that was not widely used for sparkling wines at the time allowed Perrier-Jouët to develop a distinct style that combined vibrancy, freshness, and complexity. This approach would go on to earn the house worldwide acclaim and solidify its place among Champagne’s elite.
Perrier-Jouët’s signature style is defined by its floral profile, a hallmark of its long-standing dedication to craftsmanship and blending. Perrier-Jouët Belle Époque champagne is an icon of the House, the Original Belle Epoque cuvée to appear adorned with the legendary spray of Japanese white anemones created by Emile Gallé in 1902. Produced only in years when, in the judgment of Cellar Master Hervé Deschamps, the seasons have aligned perfectly, it is a captivating demonstration, not only of the art of blending, but also of the exceptional quality of the Perrier-Jouët vineyard. Testifying to the rarity of this cuvée, less than 30 vintages of Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque champagne have been produced to date.
Perrier-Jouët’s commitment to excellence extends beyond the cellar, with a strong focus on sustainability and the natural environment. The house’s approach to viticulture is rooted in respect for nature.
For those fortunate enough to taste it, Perrier-Jouët Belle Époque offers more than just a drink it is an experience. A celebration of rarity, elegance, and the finest craftsmanship, it embodies the very essence of Champagne luxury. Whether for a momentous occasion or as a gift to mark an extraordinary event, this cuvée is an invitation to savor the finest things in life.
Tasting Notes
"Made from 50% Chardonnay, with 45% Pinot Noir and the rest Meunier, and 8 grams per liter of dosage, the 2014 Champagne Belle Epoque Brut pours a brilliant straw hue and is fresh with aromas of white peach, a touch of fresh pineapple, and fresh tropical flowers. Medium to full-bodied, it has a more expansive feel on the palate, with more structure and a lively mousse that lends a touch of white pepper on the finish. The palate at this stage is ripe, with pure notes peach fruit, and it’s very fresh in its style." - Jeb Dunnuck, (11/17/2023), Ratings: 94
"A blend of 50% Chardonnay, 45% Pinot Noir and 5% Pinot Meunier with a dosage of eight grams per liter, the 2014 Brut Belle Epoque is turning out well today, evoking aromas of white peach, pear, spring flowers, almonds flowers and lemon oil. Medium to full-bodied, layered and textural, it’s fresh and charming with a delicately tense mid-palate and a saline, mineral finish. Long and penetrating, this is an excellent rendition of this cuvée." - Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate (3/29/2024), Ratings: 93+, Drink: 2024-2030
