Tenuta Nuova is a pioneering and visionary vineyard project emboding the belief and passion of Casanova di Neri. Tenuta Nuova means new property; Tenuta Nuova is a place where nobody planted Sangiovese before; Tenuta Nuova is the will of Casanova di Neri to produce a powerful yet drinkable Brunello with a high ageing potential. The project began with the study of varied local microclimates and their optimal exposures. Through a cautious and passionate research Casanova di Neri has used the most sophisticated scientific investigations to determine the clones, rootstocks, cultivation practices, plant density per hectare and every possible particular to obtain excellent Sangiovese grapes.

VINTAGE NOTES

2015 will be remembered as a truly textbook year. Winter was essentially mild with temperatures within the average and abundant rainfall in January and February. The budding occurred in the second week of April. The second part of April and the entire month of May were rich in rainfall and sunny days; all this led to a regular development of the vegetative cycle, to an excellent accumulation of water in the soil and a regular and prosperous flowering that ended around the end of May. June and July were dry and warm, slightly above average. During the second week of August, precipitations lowered the temperatures and helped the ripening process considerably. August and September continued with significant differences in temperature range between day and night which led to a balance between acidity, tannins and almost perfect grape sugars.

Tasting notes by the winemaker Giovanni Neri:

Deep bright red. The usual Tenuta Nuova balsamic aroma blends with pure red fruit in the making. Savory on the palate, almost salty, with the powerful tannins of the vibrant 2015 melting into an incredible depth.

Critics Tasting Notes

"The Neri family has created a classic expression of Sangiovese from a classic vintage, while remaining faithful to the house style. In a nutshell, these wines always tend to offer dark plum, clove and fig confit over the tiny berry and blue flower aromas you get from the traditionalists. That said, this Brunello needs ample time to open, and I suggest you splash it into the decanter. The Casanova di Neri 2015 Brunello di Montalcino (this is the one with the white label) stays safely within your expectation of the vintage with its variety-driven aromas of wild berry, licorice, blue flower and balsam herb. This wine sees fruit sourced from a vineyard on the northeast side of Montalcino, with Galestro soils ranging from 330 to 480 meters above sea level. Some 95,376 bottles were made. It was bottled in June 2019, and it hit the market in January 2020. You might want more from the aromatics (while you wait for the bouquet to come around), but this wine goes gangbusters in terms of mid-palate and overall texture." - Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate (1/31/2020)  Ratings: 94, Drink: 2021-2035

"The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova was quite restrained at first, requiring time in the glass to fully blossom, as subtle red berry fruits slowly gain volume and are then complemented by sweet red florals with hints of exotic spice, peppery herbs, and dusty minerals. On the palate, silky textures flood the senses with rich red berry fruits and sweet herbal tones, leaving hints of savory spice and minerals in their wake. The finish is long and unexpectedly fresh, showing the first hints of round tannins under a top note of sweet cherry, plum and a hint of black tea. There is so much going on here, yet it is all densely wrapped up in its youthful state." - Eric Guido, vinous (4/2020) Ratings: 96, Drink: 2022-2036

About Brunello di Montalcino

Nestled in the heart of Tuscany, Brunello di Montalcino is one of Italy’s most prestigious wine appellations. It surrounds the historic hilltop town of Montalcino, located in the province of Siena, approximately 120 kilometers south of Florence. The first recordings of the red wines from Montalcino date back to the 14th century. The Sangiovese Brunello di Montalcino style we know today did not emerge until the 1870s just after the creation of a single Italian estate. The Brunello di Montalcino wines gained a reputation as one of Italy's rarest and finest wines by the end of World War II. Established as a DOC “Denominazione di origine controllata” in 1966, Brunello was formalized as Italy’s first DOCG “Denominazione di origine controllata e garantita” alongside Piedmont’s Barolo in July 1980. The DOCG is the top quality pyramid of Italian wines. Here, time seems to slow. Olive groves, cypress-lined roads, and medieval architecture paint a quintessential Tuscan landscape, while centuries-old winemaking traditions are preserved with pride. In every glass of Brunello di Montalcino, one can taste the harmony of nature, heritage, and craftsmanship that defines this remarkable corner of Italy. Brunello is always made with the local tuscan Sangiovese grape variety. The climate of Montalcino is one of the warmest and driest of Tuscany, these conditions seem to be the perfect environment where Sangiovese grapes thrive. Today, nearly 200 producers operate within the appellation, most of them small producers or family estates. Collectively, they produce around 300,000 cases annually. The Brunello wines are known for their garnet color and complex aromatic profile, typically featuring notes of red and black fruit with subtle hints of vanilla and spice. At Laguna Cellar we feature some greatest wines from prestigious estates such as: Giodo Brunello Di Montalcino and Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino.
